What do you like to do on evenings when the weather is nice? For us at Valley Honda, one of our favorites is to head out in a Honda for a show at the drive-in. Since 35mm film distribution will be ending with 2013, many are worried that drive-in theaters will have to close down due to the costly switch to digital projection, but Honda is looking to prevent that!
Honda recently announced the launch of Project Drive-In, an initiative sponsored by Honda to help save drive-in theaters. To go about doing this, Honda is donating at least five digital projectors to drive-ins in the U.S. and raising awareness in communities on how they can get involved.
“Cars and drive-in theaters go hand-in-hand, and it’s our mission to save this decades-old slice of Americana that holds such nostalgia for so many of us,” said Alicia Jones, Honda’s manager of Honda & Acura Social Marketing. “We’re committed to helping the remaining drive-in theaters flourish with the move to digital projection.”
Interested in getting involved? Visit ProjectDriveIn.com to learn how. You can also visit the website to vote for which drive-in theaters you want to see receive one of the digital projectors from Honda. You have until September 9th at 9 p.m. to vote, and the winners will be revealed later in the month. Each of the five winning theaters will get a digital projector and a special screening of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 to play at a celebration event!
